PANEL This weekend long festival of events kicks off with a panel with a special live edition of the ongoing documentary project ConversationswithHER. ConversationswithHER is a series of recorded conversations with women who are organizers, DJs, music producers, dancers, actors, educators and more. We are discussing their experiences, struggles, successes and goals with Hip-Hop as the common denominator. This documentary will expand the narrow lens of which women in the culture are viewed; by showing the many ways we lead, support and work within the Hip-Hop community. For this panel we will feature both men and women expanding the scope and depth of these conversations. We will discuss entrepreneurial elements of Hip-Hop culture, global views and, of course, gender differences.
WORKSHOPS & LADIES BATTLE! Next up are the master dance workshops on Friday. On Saturday evening, LADIES BATTLE! gathers some of the best female street dancers from around the world to compete and showcase their talents. Dancers from Canada, Russia, Korea, Austria, France, Switzerland, Estonia, UK, and Japan are expected to come perform and battle. LOHHF is excited to help re-establish the birthplace of Hip-Hop culture, NYC, as the global epicenter of the dance. The festival gives local residents the opportunity to join other dance professionals and enthusiasts from around the world as well as celebrate and support local and international female dance artists.
SHOWCASE The Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival week wraps with a must-see performance showcase. Performers from all around the world apply to be part of this culminating showcase. Each year LOHHF selects the work of 15 crews & companies to present their work. It is a sold-out night sharing the international Hip-Hop cultural perspective featuring women and girls from New York to Iceland.
-"Best of luck to our performers and competitors, we look forward to seeing creative, inspiring and entertaining performances” expressed Michele Byrd McPhee, founder of Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival.
